The Library: a hunt for resources

This hunt for what the Ashland Community College library has to offer students is meant only as an introduction to the resources and services available to college students and members of the Ashland community. This hunt is best done in small groups. When you find a book, magazine, or other requested article, please return it to where you found it. |
1) Find a copy of Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations. Write down the Library of Congress call number. Also record the name of the publisher, the place of publication, and the date of publication.
Write down the names of the books that are next to this book, the books on either side of it.
or
1) Find a copy of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw (and do the same as for #1 above).
2) Write down the Library of Congress call number for the Encyclopedia Britanica.

2) Write down the Library of Congress call number for the World Book Encyclopedia.
3) Find the Interpreter’s Bible in the Reference section and write down the Library of Congress call number.
4) Find a copy of Webster’s New International Dictionary, 2nd. Edition, and write down the Library of Congress call number.
5) Find the most recent copy of The National Geographic magazine. What are the magazines that are on either side of it? Write down their names.
6) Find the title of the
poem written by Stanley Moss in the July 8, 1996 copy of The New Yorker

6) Find the author of the article called “Reform Placebo” in the January 19, 1998 issue of The New Republic.

6) Find the author of “Work of the Detective…” in Modern Fiction Studies, Volume 42, #1, Spring 1996.
7) Look in The Book Review Digest and find the number of reviews written about James Grady’s Six Days of the Condor in 1974.
8) Using the computer’s EBSCO database, find the full text review of Dream Catcher: a memoir, by Margaret Salinger. The review is written by Jean Hariff Korelitz. Do not print the whole article; write down the name of the magazine in which this review was published, the date, and the page on which the review appeared.

Using Newsbank, find the article that appeared in The Dallas Morning
News titled:
Drug war often finds CIA at odds with DEA.” Write down the first sentence of
this article.
10) On what page of what volume of The World Book Millennium 2000 encyclopedia is there an article about Libyan president Muammar Muhammad Qadhafi?
11) Find the library’s Vertical File. What folder comes after the folded labeled “Energy”?
12) Name three of the atlases in the ACC atlas collection.
