What To Do

Do you ever wonder if there are any enjoyable activities in our town that are low in cost or even free, with the possibility of meeting new people, resting, and relaxing?  You don’t have to look very far; there’s the library, state park, and the movies.

For example, the local Elizabethtown library will cost you nothing but the time to go there.  Spend hours upon hours exploring books on new cultures, how to fix a car, or even listen to music in a private booth. Libraries will allow you to stay from the time that they open until the time that they close.  The staff is always ready to help you in locating any book.  Most libraries are equipped with computers that will allow you to surf the web, check your e-mail, or do your homework at no charge.  If the library is nearing closing time you can check out the book(s) that you are interested in and take them with you for a specific time.

Another instance of a local activity that is free is the Otter Creek Park.  Pack a lunch, and bring the books that you signed out from the library and enjoy the peaceful solitude of nature. The park consists of 2,600 forested acres allowing for rock climbing and cave tours. Picture yourself on a hill with your blanket spread out, the birds are singing their songs, frogs are croaking away, and you’re overlooking the Ohio River.  If meeting people is what you desire then there is a swimming pool, observatory, restaurant, and even a recreational vehicle park. The park host is surely going to offer you sincere hospitality.   If you would rather not be outside, then you can rent a fully equipped cabin for a small nightly fee and stay as long as you want.

An even more enjoyable activity for some is going to the movies. In Radcliff there is a stadium seating movie theater complex.  For a small fee of $5.00, you can enjoy a variety of movies from comedy to action.  Since this theater is equipped with stadium seating no matter what seat you choose you will not be too close or too far from the screen, and the best part is that a tall person sitting in front of you will not hinder your view. There is also plenty of soda, candy, and popcorn to please anyone's munching cravings. Get to the theater early and enjoy the trivia questions that are on the screen before the movie.    Climate control and a wonderful digital sound system makes you seem that you are right there in the movie.  Once the movie begins, sit back, relax, and enjoy.

The library, state park, and movie theatre are only three places to go that are of no or a minimal charge.  There are many resources available to find places to go and yet so many people would rather stay at home and say, “There is nothing to do and we can’t afford to go anywhere.”  Time does not stop for anyone, so get out, and enjoy these places before it is too late.
